Rory McIlroy shot a 1-over-par 70 at the Dubai Invitational on Friday despite making quadruple bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes.

At the Dubai Invitational on Friday at 8:30 p.m., he won the second round of the DP World Tour despite winning four gold medals. The Northern Irishman’s two-stroke lead would have been much greater had he not made two bogeys on the par-3 eighth hole, the world’s second-highest on the seventh.
McIlroy bravely responded to his only missed shot in the first two rounds at Dubai Creek Resort, finishing the round with three birdies on the back nine and 10 under par. Denmark’s Jeff Windsor shot a 5-under 66 to join Germany’s Yannick Paul at 5-under, while McIlroy’s Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood also joined Germany’s Yannick Paul at 5-under.

After shooting an impressive 62 on Thursday, McIlroy picked up where he left off, shooting -11 on the third and fourth holes. But the tragedy occurred at point 8, 214 meters high.
McIlroy got in front of him, found water and then made another mistake in the drop zone about 75 yards from the green. After hitting the green on his third attempt, McIlroy two-putted 7 and was briefly out of the lead.
Rory McIlroy’s early lead continued in the second round of the Dubai Invitational with an exceptional second shot at the fourth hole. Pars fell behind on the 9th hole in the first round, but McIlroy recovered with birdies on the 10th and par-5 13th holes.
McIlroy made a 30-foot putt on the par-3 16th and birdied the final birdie to even the round. “If you look at the other 17 holes that I played, I played really, really well, I hit some good iron shots and it wasn’t much different than I played yesterday,” McIlroy said.
“Yesterday I probably could have played a few holes, but the conditions were a bit tougher, the wind was blowing and the greens tight. Rory McIlroy failed to advance in the first round of the Dubai Invitational despite being ahead.

“Then I made a few mistakes on the eighth hole. It felt good to get back out there and play some good golf on the course.
“Everyone seemed to have a tougher time today than yesterday, but it’s great to still be in the lead going into the weekend. This tournament has three parallel slots.
