“That’s what everyone expects from McLaren: intellectual honesty, accuracy – accepting the facts as they are. Because once we know it, we can do something about it. But making facts out of facts is a short-term approach.”

Under Stella’s leadership, McLaren embarked on a mid-season rotation that allowed drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to compete for podiums and moved McLaren up to fourth in the constructors’ standings. Asked how much she enjoyed her first season in charge, Stella said the difficult first month of the season was worth it, as well as nine podiums at the end of the season.

“Even though my results on the track were not that great, I would like to say that I enjoyed this new experience in my professional career,” he replied. “Because the real motivation and the real joy I get from this job comes from interacting with people.

“And when I see the team I’m trying to build grow and people develop and become more capable and confident, it gives me energy to create solutions. “If the consequences are in place, that’s reinforcement, but you can’t base your motivation or ultimate justification for why you do something on the consequences. I do it for a sense of composition.”
