Daniel Ricciardo has been named the happiest F1 driver at the annual GPFans awards, ahead of Lance Stroll and Max Verstappen.

As in all sports, luck is a major factor in the success or failure of a season. Although both the team and the driver have had their share of failures, they have also had many successes.

Fans have previously singled out McLaren as the luckiest team thanks to the success of their mid-season update, but here at GPFans we wanted to find out which drivers will benefit the most from Lady Luck in 2023. Fans voted Daniel Ricciardo the happiest driver of 2023. Lance Stroll finished second after a difficult season for Aston Martin. Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen completed the top three.

Ricardo was the happiest driver with 39% of the votes. Fans saw it as a lucky break when he was parachuted into the F1 seat mid-season before securing the grid for 2024 after just a few races. Stroll finished second in the category and fans will likely see Stroll’s points tally (almost a third of team-mate Fernando Alonso’s) as the Canadian’s luck in keeping his Aston Martin. 2024.

This year’s champion, Verstappen, took third place with 24% of the vote. It’s hard to argue that the Dutchman was unlucky, but it’s not often you get to drive a car like the RB19.

Alonso and Alex Albon finished fourth and fifth respectively. The Spaniard got a great car and the Williams star’s dominance over his team-mate left him feeling a little happy after a pressure-free season.
