Warrington’s only 501 darts competition is set to expand.

WARRINGTON 501, the town’s only 501 darts competition created by a vote of local players, is expanding.
Established in January 2023 with six teams interested in competing, it is currently in its third season with 14 teams and 180 registered members. Mark Fearnley, chairman of the board, said: “We want to expand to set up Warrington’s first youth academy and are currently fundraising to make this happen. “We have applied for a variety of public funds, mainly business-oriented GoFundMe fundraising and online football cards. You can find it on our Facebook page. We also received a very generous donation from Helen Horne Funeral Directors in Warrington. “We are looking to raise £3,400 to cover the costs of equipment, JDC certification, first aid courses and electronic tablets to help our young members earn their points. We are also considering purchasing special equipment from Flexiboard to allow the board to be easily adjusted in height for players with disabilities.

The academy, based at St Benedict’s Social Club in Orford, targets young people and disabled people in the local community. Mark added: “We are also talking to a number of dart manufacturers and some local businesses to discuss sponsorship opportunities. If local entrepreneurs want
