TOST: VERSTAPPEN UNBEATABLE, NO TEAMMATE WILL EVER BEAT HIM

Former AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost believes nobody will ever beat Formula 1 triple World Champion Max Verstappen driving equal machinery.
“No!” the response Tost, asked if Red Bull’s Dutch superstar would ever be challenged by a teammate.
67-year-old Tost, who departed from the top job at AlphaTauri, oversaw Verstappen’s rapid rise in Formula 1 and was the Dutchman’s first boss when he earned a full-time race seat with Scuderia Toro Rosso back in 2015.
Tost is well-placed to give an accurate assessment of the Red Bull driver’s potential and trajectory in the sport in the years to come. In recent years, Verstappen has dominated his teammates in terms of results, handily dispatching the likes of Daniil Kvyat, Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon out on track.
His current teammate is Mexican veteran Sergio Perez. Entering his fourth season alongside Verstappen, Perez cannot be considered anything but a No.2 driver for the Milton Keynes-based outfit.

While there is plenty of speculation surrounding possible favouritism towards Verstappen, with a car more suited to his unique driving style, Tost is more inclined to believe that the 26-year-old is simply a cut above the rest in pure ability.
Speaking to F1 Insider, the former AlphaTauri boss reiterated his belief that Verstappen is one of the best drivers he has ever witnessed. He said: “If Max continues to have a good car, he will win many more races and titles.” He’s still not at his limit and will get even better.”

Tost has always had a soft spot for Verstappen; after all it was he who decided to hand him the Toro Rosso seat despite not even having a regular driving license at the age of 17.
Despite having many years left in F1, Tost still thinks no teammate will ever beat Verstappen in the same car. He concluded: “No driver who is or will be his team-mate will ever progress beyond the role of number two driver.”

Possibly the best teammate RBR has mustered for the second car is Perez. However since 2021, during their time sharing the same garage, Verstappen has won 44 GPs while Checo has added five F1 victories to his name
