The sacked team boss is set to make a surprise return to F1.

Former Alpine F1 sporting director Alan Permane will soon make a surprise return to the sport with the renamed AlfaTauri team.

Motorsport.com reports that the F1 veteran is “ready for a role” at AlphaTauri after leaving Alpine last summer. Perman underwent an overhaul in the Alps with former team boss Otmar Schaffnauer at Enstone.

But the former Benetton, Renault and Lotus man, who has more than 30 years’ experience in F1, could return to the paddock in 2024 if rumors are to be believed. Permane sees AlphaTauri joining a team undergoing significant change as the company works with a new senior partner to lead the team.

Former Ferrari racing director Laurent Mekis will become the team’s new boss alongside CEO Peter Bayer. The team is also preparing a rebrand under a new name, AlphaTauri, which could be revealed before the car’s launch in 2024.
