Aryna Sabalenka Plays Down Australian Open Title Expectations After 6-0, 6-0, win
Aryna Sabalenka dashed her Australian Open title hopes with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Aryna Sabalenka believes she still has room for improvement after reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open on Thursday.
Defending champion Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine recorded her first unbeaten tournament win, winning 6-0, 6-0 in less than an hour. Overall, he has missed just six tournament games so far en route to the last 16 games of the tournament. These are Victoria Azarenka’s fewest losses since 2016, when she lost five of her first three matches at the Australian Open. Despite recording one of the biggest wins of his entire career, the world number two is determined to maintain his current form. He admits there is always room for improvement in his game. “There’s always room for improvement,” he said.
“That’s why you have to keep moving forward and improving, because you can’t be satisfied with where you are.”
Sabalenka is one of the top eight trios still playing on the tour after a series of high-profile outings. The other two are world number one Iga Sviatek and reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff.
