Emma Radukanu is in doubt to play for England at the Billie Jean King Cup in April, with fixtures to be significantly rescheduled.
Radukanu lost in the second round of the Australian Open on Thursday, his second tournament in nine months. The British star, who shocked the tennis world with Grand Slam glory at the US Open three years ago, could step up on the WTA Tour ahead of the Indian Wells opener in March.
“I want to compete at Indian Wells,” said the 21-year-old. “Obviously it depends on the standings and the wild card situation. This is not my decision. “Of course I want to play in the Middle East, but that’s not my decision. What matters is whether they want me or not. “So I’m waiting to hear about that. But of course I plan to attend the preliminaries. “I don’t think the quality of these ‘sub-tournaments’ is very good. Because you gather a lot of skills, you play in these conditions and in the wind. Emma Radukanu lost to Van Yafan in Australia.
