Fears shared about Mercedes’ development: “The trouble is…”
Broadcaster Sky Sports has expressed concern over Mercedes developments ahead of the 2024 F1 season.
Natalie Pinkham has expressed concern that Toto Wolff’s team will not be able to seriously challenge Red Bull until 2026, when F1’s new rules come into effect. The W15 will be unveiled at Silverstone on February 14, before Lewis Hamilton and George Russell hope to race for Red Bull this year.
“I hope it happens,” Pinkham was quoted as saying by The Express Autosport International. “The problem is that Mercedes is a bit behind in changing the direction of the concept.
“I think regulatory changes may be needed before it becomes popular again. “But look, we say, ‘Well, they were a few miles away. . . .’
“[Hamilton] is still third in the championship and Mercedes is second. So it’s not that far. “But they didn’t look like they would have any trouble winning in 2023.”
Hamilton has not won an F1 Grand Prix for two seasons, during which Max Verstappen has been a dominant force in the sport.
Russell took Mercedes’ only win in the past two years, but that victory in Brazil came in 2022.
