Get Closer’: Sabalenka Fires Warning To Swiatek After Perfect Win At Australian Open
‘Close’: Sabalenka warns Svitek after stunning Australian Open win
Aryna Sabalenka said she wanted to be like Iga Sviacek after her final match at the 2024 Australian Open.
The reigning Australian Open champion received good news from the field after the Olympic ban on Russian and Belarusian players was lifted. Sabalenka expressed her joy after the decision.
Perhaps Sabalenka is even more pleased with her performance on the court. Last year’s US Open runner-up has typically dominated first-round Grand Slam matches, losing just six of her first three matches.
But the 25-year-old looked more dominant than usual during his third-round match at the Australian Open. Sabalenka beat Lesia Tsurenko 6-0, 6-0. The match lasted only 52 minutes and was one of the most contested matches in history. The bagel set is a famous product from Swiatek. Last season, Svitek had a very good record, going 6-0, the most sets on the WTA Tour.
Sabalenka was asked about her dominance in the first round after the Tsurenko fight and she playfully quoted Sviatek in her answer. Sabalenka responded to her opponent’s refusal to shake her hand after losing at the Australian Open.
“Last year Iga went 6-0 in as many sets. That was one of the goals. Try to get closer to that person.”
Since then, Belarus has continued to raise the bar.
