Josh Oglesby to be named Arizona offensive line coach

Arizona head coach Brent Brennan is working to put together his coaching staff and the Wildcats have added former San Jose State offensive line coach Josh Oglesby in the same position. Oglesby just finished his fourth season with the Spartans after he was named the San José State University offensive line coach in March 2020.

In 2022, the Spartans offensive line helped Quarterback Chevan Cordeiro lead the Mountain West with 3,251 yards passing and 23 throwing touchdowns. He also led the Mountain West with 31 total touchdowns.

The 23 passing touchdowns were the most under Brennan in a season and the nine quarterback rushing touchdowns are a SJSU modern day record. Wide receiver Elijah Cooks ended the campaign with 10 touchdowns which is the most under Brennan and had 1,076 yards on the season.

In his first season with the Spartans, Oglesby’s offensive linemen formed one of top pass protecting units nationally. Even with four different starting offensive lines in an eight-game season, San Jose State tied for eighth nationally yielding only 1.00 quarterback sacks per game.

The Spartans also had their best rushing offense in five years averaging 4.5 yards a carry and 132.5 yards per game. Left tackle Jack Snyder became the first San Jose State offensive lineman in eight years to earn first-team all-conference honors. Snyder signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.

At the University of Wisconsin, Oglesby was a 2011 first-team All-Big Ten honoree and an offensive lineman on the 2010 and 2011 Badgers teams that represented the Big Ten Conference in the Rose Bowl. Oglesby pursued a professional football career with Washington of the National Football League in 2012 before entering coaching.

He also participated in the Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship program in 2016 with the Oakland Raiders and in 2019 with the Indianapolis Colts.

Before San Jose State, Oglesby was an assistant offensive line coach for the XFL’s Seattle Dragons in 2019. He was also the tight ends coach for the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football (2019) and at the University of Texas El Paso as a quality control staff assistant in 2018.

Oglesby also spent three seasons at Oregon State University as a quality control staff assistant working with the offensive linemen from 2015-17 and started as a graduate assistant at Wisconsin in 2013 and 14.

This past season, Oglesby was nominated for the 2023 Broyles Award, which honors college football’s top assistant coaches. Oglesby helped coach the Spartans over a four game win streak this past season by having four games of over 200 plus yards rushing for the first time since 2000.

Indianapolis Colts pass rusher and reigning All-Pro DeForest Buckner says he’s excited to battle the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South this season given the franchise’s recent addition of Julio Jones and his own team’s acquisition of quarterback Carson Wentz.

The race to a division crown is on and the two rival teams both feel they improved this offseason. Buckner appeared on The Dan Patrick Show this month and said Wentz appears to be on a mission to prove he’s still a top-level quarterback after his tenure floundered in Philadelphia.

Tennessee is the team everyone expects to win the division and Buckner says that’s motivations for the Colts.

“Going against [the Titans] twice a year is going to be a lot more fun,” Buckner said, via Jonathan Simmons of the Indianapolis Star. “The bigger the challenge, the more interesting the game gets and I love it. I love going against the best and, you know, to be the best you’ve gotta beat the best and they’re one of the best teams in the league right now.”

Notes Duck Territory’s Kevin Wade, last season marked Buckner’s first All-Pro First-Team honor despite missing three games. He finished the year with 45 combined tackles, ten tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery over 13 games. Buckner’s impact was highlighted when the defensive tackle was forced to miss a game against league rushing leader Derrick Henry who ran for 178 yards and three touchdowns against the Colts.

Buckner gained the support of teammates quickly in Indianapolis, where he became a focal point of the defense.
