Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko said Sainz was not happy with Verstappen joining him as his Formula 1 team-mate when they started together as rookies at Toro Rosso in 2015. Verstappen was promoted to Red Bull the following year, but Sainz never got the chance to step up to the top team. Red Bull eventually released him and he joined Ferrari in 2021. “Sainz is definitely a great driver.” Marco said to Marca. “He was almost equal to Max at Toro Rosso. Unfortunately, he was unlucky to have Verstappen as his teammate.
