‘A rotting cancer of hell’ – Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney reacts to nightmare round of golf at Farmers Insurance Open alongside USWNT star Alex Morgan

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney was less than impressed with his performance as he endured a nightmare round of golf alongside some famous names.

McElhenney took part in the Farmers Insurance Open Pro-Am this week, although he proved that perhaps he isn’t great at absolutely everything he does. The Wrexham co-owner played 18 holes, nine with professional Max Homa and nine with Sam Ryder. However, the actor wasn’t too impressed with his performance.

In a video uploaded to Instagram by ESPN golf analyst Michael Collins after the end of their round, McElhenney said: “Physically I feel great. Emotionally I’m a wreck. I’m smiling but I’m crying on the inside. You can’t see it because I’m a great actor. That [points at course] nothing but beautiful and in here [rubs chest area] a rotting cancer of hell… and that’s golf!”

McElhenney was one of several big names taking part in the event, which preceded the start of the Farmers Insurance Open on Wednesday. USWNT star Alex Morgan took to the green with her husband acting as her caddie.

Despite his own grievances about his performance, Ryder was complementary about McElhenney and his celebrity teammates. “I see a lot of potential here,” he said.

McElhenney clearly loves his golf, but it might be that running a football club alongside Ryan Reynolds is more his thing. That’s if Wrexham’s current position in the table is anything to go by; the Red Dragons are second in League Two and are on course to earn a second promotion in as many seasons. Up next for Wrexham is an FA Cup fourth round clash with Blackburn Rovers on Monday.
