The 2024 Captain’s Invitational Golf Championship will be held from January 26-28 at the Kumasi Royal Golf Club.

Now in its seventh year, the three-day event sees over 100 golfers from across the country compete for highly attractive prizes including cash vouchers, trophies and medals. This year’s Children’s Championships will be held over three consecutive Fridays with a focus on the Captain One Child project, which aims to develop children from underprivileged communities into golfers.

Children from Safe Children’s Home in Kumasi, Mama Love Foundation in Obuasi and Angel of Hope Orphanage in Tarkwa, along with other groups and individuals, were expected to participate in the competition. After the Kid event, professional and amateur golfers took center stage on Saturday to win top championships and major trophies.

They will have to compete for bragging rights with last year’s Craig Tando who defeated 2023 winner James Akwaboa. Thando pulled off a major upset last year and is determined to maintain and win the trophy as one of the best golfers in the country.

The main event takes place on Saturday and Sunday and the top golfers receive prize money. Speaking ahead of the event, Captain One Golf Society President Pius Aye Appiah said he was delighted that the event is being held in the country for the seventh consecutive time.

“I look forward to the children’s event which will be part of our annual championships as we work to bring hope to people in disadvantaged communities,” he said. He said the association sought to develop golf by attracting young people, especially women, and it had seen rapid growth in recent years.

He said the last monthly medals before the championships were held in Tema on Sunday to prepare for next weekend’s main event. He encouraged golfers to register and visit the Royal Golf Club for a memorable competitive experience aimed at impacting the lives of underprivileged children in the country.

He thanked sponsors Servaco PPS, Kinkubi Solutions, RK Cliste, Flo Polo Designs, Run on Time Engineering, PEEW-Williams Engineering Services, Smart Procurement and Logistics, SK Logistics and Constructions, Royal Golf Club and Mosak Photography for their support. . ☰
