Who will be on Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team with major announcement expected

Jon Rahm has been handed the chance to run his own LIV Golf team ahead of his maiden season on the breakaway circuit, but the Spaniard is yet to announce his teammates

With less than a week to go until the opening event of the 2024 LIV Golf season at Mayakoba, golf fans are eagerly waiting to see who will make up Jon Rahm’s team.

Rahm became arguably LIV’s biggest coup yet last month, after a signing a record-breaking deal worth a reported £450 million. As part of his agreement, Rahm was also handed the chance to take control of his own team, but with days to go until the opener there has still been no official announcement about his selections.

Multiple reports have claimed that the Spanish’s stars team name will be Legion XIII, with Rahm’s new setup set to bring in a whole host of changes to the way the league works.

In its first two seasons, LIV operated with 48 players split across 12 teams. Rahm’s addition will of course see this change to 13 teams and 52 players with the completion of his team. In addition, the breakaway league are also set to add two more wildcard players, to bring the field to 54 for each event.

A whole host of names have been linked with joining Rahm’s roster ahead of event No. 1 in Mexico next Friday. From a Ryder Cup teammate to one of LIV’s Q-School beneficiaries, here is a look at who is expected to join Rahm as part of the Legion squad.

In recent days, a number of reports have revealed that Englishman Tyrrell Hatton is set to become the next big name to join LIV Golf. Hatton had initially sounded out his chances of making the Saudi switch, admitting he was happy with the DP World Tour and PGA Tour at last week’s Dubai Desert Classic.

Things appear to have quickly changed though, and Hatton is now on the cusp of becoming Rahm’s teammate ahead of the trip to Mexico. The pair hold a strong bond, having won two Ryder Cups together in 2018 and 2023 as part of Team Europe.

Hatton and Rahm have also played directly alongside each other at the Ryder Cup, winning both of their matches when paired together in Rome last Autumn.

Reports have also suggested that the Spaniard will add Kieran Vincent to his roster for 2024. Vincent booked a place on the LIV setup for the upcoming season, after finishing inside the top three at the breakaway league’s Promotions event in Abu Dhabi last month.
