Luke Humphries vows that top players will ‘look after’ Luke Littler

Luke Humphries has promised his best players will “look after Luke Littler”.

Luke Humphreys has vowed that the world’s best darts players will look after teenage sensation Luke Little and make sure he is not taken advantage of.

The pair meet for the third time in a month on Thursday as the world number one looks to avenge his quarter-final loss to the 17-year-old at the Dutch Masters.

Humphries, who won his first World Cup final on January 3, said some of the biggest names in the sport had come together to protect the teenager. He denied claims he was jealous of the Warrington native, who has been in the media spotlight since his surprise appearance on stage last year.

“I got to play Luke Littler a few times over the next 20 years,” the 28-year-old said. \’It\’s something that I\’m going to be looking forward to.

The 17-year-old has been a major attraction ever since his remarkable run to the final of the World Darts Championship

Littler claimed his first professional title earlier this month when he beat Michael van Gerwen in the final of the Bahrain Masters

\’He might beat me in Cardiff, I might beat him. But I keep in mind the most important things. All I wanted to win was the world champion. I think he deserves all the credit for achieving something that we will never see.

“For me, it wasn’t a dream to drive everyone crazy. My dream was to become world champion. It doesn’t matter if they attract attention or not. Many people think I suffer from it, but I don’t. I have achieved my dream.’

“I received a lot of media attention,” he added. “But there is something different about Luca. Because he’s the star of the show now.

“I think it’s important that every player takes care of it and that nobody tries to use it or overuse it. This will happen in life. People want to use it because of its popularity and status.

“But every player will look after him to make sure that doesn’t happen. “He’s a great boy and his future is bright.”

Humphreys and Littler will take part in the Premier League darts season opener, with the top eight players taking part in the tournament which runs until May.

Littler will focus on beating reigning champion Michael van Gerwen, who he defeated earlier this month to qualify for the Bahrain Masters of Darts.
