India’s Davis Cup captain Zeeshan Ali said he will miss Sumit Nagal’s presence in the upcoming match against Pakistan. Very well, he’s probably playing the best tennis he’s ever played.
“He is a player who knows how to play on grass. It’s different if he doesn’t like playing on grass, but it’s a surface he can get used to if he puts in the time. So we will definitely miss Sumit”.
Zeeshan Ali also praised Sumit’s performance in Australian Open 2024. “Sumit had a good draw. Without a doubt, getting through the qualifying rounds is almost like winning the tournament itself. If you look at the level they are playing and the ranking, they are playing in the top 250 players in the world and even making it to the qualifiers,” Zeeshan told NNIS Sports.
“Of course, nobody expected to beat (Alexander) Bublik and I think he played freely. “No one expected him to win this game and he played very well,” added Zeisan.
India’s Davis Cup team trains at the famous Gym Khana Club in Delhi. Zeeshan spoke about the team’s preparations ahead of the Pakistan trip. “It will be a very difficult match. On the ATP Tour, you play against players who don’t play like they used to, which means they are older players, but they also have a lot of experience playing on grass. “At the same time, there’s also the downside of a draw where three of the top four players can’t play alone.”
India will also lose the services of India’s second singles player, Sasikumar Mukund, who has withdrawn due to personal reasons. The draw against Pakistan is scheduled for February 3 and 4. The All India Tennis Association (AITA) has named India coach Zeeshan Ali as the captain of the Davis Cup team for the upcoming match against Pakistan. According to AITA General Secretary Anil Dupar, Zeeshan Ali will replace Rohit Rajpal as Rajpal is unable to travel to Pakistan due to family medical issues. “Our off-field captain Rohit Rajpal could not go with the team due to personal reasons,” Dhupar was quoted as saying by PTI.
“I am pleased to announce today the appointment of Zeeshan Ali, a very experienced player, as the captain of the team. He (Zeshan) will be the captain of this match and I am confident that India will put up a strong performance under the captaincy of Pakistan. He is,” added he.
