Cowboys Jerry Jones Fuels Ex Patriots Belichick Rumors: ‘We Could Work Together’
After deciding to bring Mike McCarthy back in 2024 and taking the opportunity to quell Bill Belichick’s Dallas-Cowboys rumors, Jerry Jones left the door open Tuesday night.
“I know him personally and I like him,” Jones told reporters after watching Alabama practice for the Senior Bowl in Mobile. “There is no doubt that we can work together. Not. Not”.
Bringing McCarthy back for the 2024 Lame Ducks season will put him in the final year of his contract as coach. Jones has publicly stated that he supports his coach “100 percent.” And Belichick parted ways with the New England Patriots last January. After 25 years of unprecedented success, 11 teams will depart next season and move to TV in 2025, with empty seats waiting to be found.
But with Jones teasing and the media bubble over the marriage of Team USA and the NFL’s winningest coach, a Cowboys loss next season could deepen Belichick’s shadow. Jones went out of his way to praise McCarthy again on Tuesday. But at the same time, Belichick refused to coach the Cowboys one day. “We all know he’s very good, maybe at the top of his game,” Jones said of Belichick. “It’s ridiculous for anyone to tell you that you’re automatically guaranteed a Super Bowl. This is too much hope for him. But can he become the greatest professional football coach of all time? It could very well be.
“He’s a friend, I like him and I want to make it clear: I will have no problem working with him.”
