Alex Albon: From Red Bull Ax to F1’s Hottest Driver as Mercedes Seizes Opportunity

Thanks to his outstanding performances and results at Williams, Alex Albon has taken his F1 career to the point where top teams such as Mercedes and Red Bull are once again taking notice.

He moved to a Red Bull Racing seat alongside Max Verstappen, but despite having 12 F1 races, he continued to play for sister team Toro Rosso. Albon lasted 18 months, but was replaced by Sergio Perez at the end of 2020, and the following year he was no longer a driver. It’s a situation many drivers never recover from. Despite the Red Bull connection, he looked unlikely to return to the top of the grid despite a Williams seat in 2022. But two years on, the British-Thai driver, who represents F1’s sleeping giant, looks set to play a key role in the 2024 driver market.

Williams repelled several attempts by rivals to pry the star driver from their hands. They have been successful in this area so far. Albon will continue to compete for the competition.
