An elderly woman dies in a house fire near Cleveland’s Forest Hills

CLEVELAND, Ohio – An elderly woman died Tuesday after a house fire broke out in Cleveland’s Forest Hills neighborhood, firefighters said. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 5:10 p.m. in the 900 block of Paxton Road on the city’s east side. Firefighters searched the house and found the woman’s body on the first floor, said Lt. Mike Norman, fire department spokesman. The victim used a wheelchair.
“The fire was caused by careless smoking,” Norman said. Neither the fire department nor the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office have released the woman’s identity. The man in the house survived the fire. Paramedics took him to MetroHealth Medical
Center.
