Charlie Hoffman came close to winning the WM Phoenix Open, but fell short. But you are rewarded anyway.

He finished second, qualifying for this week’s Genesis Invitational, his third signature event of the year. Naturally, he took second place. After Sunday’s playoff loss, Hoffman allowed the media to talk about what happened between him and Tiger Woods.

“I told Tiger to back off, and they told him to take it all, and I said, ‘I’m going to play inside,’ so I think that’s what he did,” Hoffman said. Hoffman hit the spot after heading to an event in Los Angeles. In the final round, he shot a 64 to take the clubhouse lead at 21 under par. Hoffman had to wait and see if it would be enough.

Nick Taylor won three of the last four holes to advance to the playoff. The 47-year-old couldn’t hold on and defeated Hoffman with a birdie on the second playoff hole.
