Joe Flacco won Player of the Year honors for his heroics with the Cleveland Browns, but not everyone was happy with the 39-year-old quarterback taking home the award.

Flacco edged out Buffalo Bills running back Damar Hamlin 151-140 in the vote. Hamlin has been the overwhelming favorite all year. He returned to the Bills this season after suffering a heart attack on the field in January 2023. The Browns benched Flacco in November. He sparked Cleveland’s offense to a 4-1 record, passing for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns during the regular season. But trading was difficult. He threw eight interceptions in five regular season games. He threw two more against the Houston Texans in a 45-14 wild-card blowout. Both were returned for touchdowns.

NBC Sports’ Peter King called Flacco’s win “outrageous” on the latest edition of “Morning Football America.” “It’s funny how Joe Flacco, back after two and a half months on the bench, beat out Damar Hamlin, who returned from his resurgence on the football field last January,” King wrote. “What’s more powerful than fun?” Absurd? bun. A fost absurd.
