Nick Price slams LIV: ‘I don’t know why they tried to re-invent the wheel’

Nick Price, the Open champion, criticized Greg Norman’s emerging circuit.

While criticizing players who defected, the 67-year-old – a two-time winner of the PGA Championship – expressed his opinion that LIV Golf is not an impressive product.

Price acknowledged on the bunkered podcast that golf’s fragmented state due to LIV’s advent is disliked by everyone.

He stated that, just like everyone else, he is unaware of the end goal. Due to its fragmented nature, nobody seems to enjoy playing the game.

Despite attempting to watch LIV, I find their product unsatisfactory. It baffles me why they attempted to recreate something that was already successful.

In my opinion, the formation of franchises in cricket’s IPL [Indian Premier League] played a significant role in their strategic planning. I don’t see anything wrong with this approach.

At present, I believe that the current product they offer is not compelling enough for viewers to eagerly tune in. It’s regrettable since there are numerous outstanding players on their team.

Whilst competing with LIV Golf CEO Norman, the Zimbabwean attained the top rank in the world.

Price, who won the PGA Tour 18 times in his career, first joined the established American circuit back in 1983 and retired from it after making his final appearance in 2012.

Prior to winning four PGA Tour Champions titles, he had secured seven victories on the European Tour.

Price expressed his hope for a resolution between himself and his previous employers while criticizing LIV golfers who spoke excessively after departing.

What really saddened me was that after signing up for the LIV tour, certain players spoke poorly about the PGA Tour despite having earned over $100 million from it.

It’s disheartening that the guys were overly critical of the tour, as it presents golfers to an affluent corporate audience – one of the most exclusive sporting organizations around.

“If you’re an image on the PGA Tour, countless corporations desire to associate with you and shower money upon you. These individuals possessed such opportunities but chose not to seize them.”

While Price acknowledged that the idea of joining LIV is something he would have contemplated, it would only be under certain circumstances.

He added, “If I had the opportunity at 45 years old, maybe I would have become a member of LIV. However, I wouldn’t criticize the tour for events that occurred in previous times.”

“I have the hope of a resolution and returning to golf as it was five years ago, but now I believe it is beyond our control.”
