Carlton Palmer gave his verdict on whether he thinks Phil Parkinson will keep his job as Wrexham manager should they not get promoted.

Wrexham’s recent form may be shaky, but they can still secure automatic promotion to League One.

Phil Parkinson must deliver results to guarantee Wrexham’s promotion, as the race remains tight.

Despite hurdles, Parkinson’s job is secure if Wrexham can secure a spot in the automatic promotion places.

Pundit and former England international Carlton Palmer has said that he still believes Wrexham will get promoted automatically, despite their recent form.

Wrexham are currently sitting in fourth place in League Two, as they look to play football in the third tier for the first time since 2005.

The Red Dragons’ 2024 so far has not been at the level of where they need to be, winning four of their ten league games so far this calendar year.

Phil Parkinson’s side were one of the heavy favourites for promotion to League One, after winning the National League title last season.

He exclusively told FLW: “Wrexham, in their last three games, a draw, a defeat, and a draw. Only two wins in their last six games, they are stuttering. They have just fallen out of the automatic places, but they are still only a point behind Crewe Alexandra and three points behind Stockport County.

“Yes, I think Phil Parkinson, his job is to get them promoted. He has been given the tools to do the job. That is one thing when you are the manager. There is one thing about getting success, but there is another thing being able to do it because you have got the tools to do the job. He has been given the tools to do the job, and I fully expect Wrexham to be automatically promoted.

“Yes, you can have disappointing spells during the season where you drop a few points, but Crewe Alexandra, they are going great, three wins and two draws in their last six games. Stockport have had a little bit of a stutter as well, two defeats and two draws in their last six games.

“But I fully expect Wrexham to be in the automatic promotion places at the end of the season but if they are not, I am sure there will be some questions asked about Parkinson, and he could well be looking for a new job.”

Wrexham have dropped off – but it’s not over yet for Parkinson

Whilst Wrexham have had a disappointing run of late, this should not put them off an automatic promotion spot.

Whilst the Red Dragons have fallen off in recent weeks, they are still only three points behind league leaders Mansfield Town.

Even then, they are also only three points off Stockport County in second and just one point off Crewe Alexandra in third position.
