Luke Littler’s family forced to intervene and warn teenager after opponent left rattled

Luke Littler has responded to claims he has become ‘arrogant’ after bursting onto the darts scene.

Luke Littler has responded to claims he has become ‘arrogant’ since breaking onto the darts scene, with the teenager believing matches against him are like ‘cup finals’ for his opponents. It comes after a spat with fellow darts ace Ricardo Pietreczko, with Littler’s family and manager subsequently sending him a warning.

All in all, it was a weekend to remember for Littler. Having defeated Nathan Aspinall in the Premier League on Thursday evening, Littler went on to win the Belgian Darts Open during his PDC European Tour debut, while hitting a nine-darter in the process. There was even time for an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, an indication of how much Littler’s profile continues to rise.

But, amid the fanfare surrounding his Belgian Open victory, Littler was also in the headlines for an altercation with the German darts player Pietreczko. The two shared a frosty embrace following the conclusion of their semi-final, which Littler won convincingly 7-3, with Pietreczko saying after the match: “I hope the arrogance punishes him”.

Responding to the accusation, Littler was his usual calm and collected self, telling Sky Sports: “It has all come quicker than I even imagined for myself and my family but I just have to thank myself for how well I played at the World Championships and then keeping this good form up.

“Hitting a nine-darter, especially in front of that crowd, it was an amazing achievement for myself… I think, ever since I have burst onto the scene, I know every player wants to beat me.”
