Extracting substantial information from Tiger Woods poses a challenge, according to Stewart Cink.

During the early week at Cabo’s Woods-designed El Cardonal in Diamante for the World Wide Technology Championship, Cink and Woods met up where Woods informed Cink that he had begun to practice.

According to Cink, “I think it’s a great sign” that he has begun practicing,” as reported by Golf Channel’s George Savaricas.

“I am unsure of his practice objective, but he confirmed that he has begun practicing. Hence, it can be inferred that he is in a state of readiness for some endeavor.”

Speculations about Woods’ return to competition after his recent surgery and absence from the public eye have been rife. However, there may be a clue regarding this matter.

Woods has been inactive since having ankle surgery at the end of April, following his withdrawal from the third round of the Masters due to plantar fasciitis.

In September, people spotted the winner of 82 TOUR championships chipping at Liberty National. The following month, a video surfaced showing Woods hitting balls at The Hay – a short course he designed in Pebble Beach during TGR Jr. Invitational event. Recently seen observing Michael Block giving lessons to First Tee participant from his golf cart early this week while attending World Wide Technology Championship was also confirmed as true for him; but later on limping into the backseat of an SUV indicates that there is no certainty surrounding how well he can walk around golf courses since his latest surgery occurred recently.

Cink, who Woods endearingly calls “The Kitchen,” is uncertain about the purpose or specifics of Woods’ practice routine. However, as a longtime competitor of Woods’, Cink recognizes that he’s in pursuit mode towards some objective.

Cink stated that everyone is rooting for him to feel the best he can, and hitting golf balls implies that he’s making progress in the right direction.

Why is Woods practicing? Perhaps for the possibility of competing in an open spot at his own Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas from Nov. 30 – Dec. 3 or playing alongside son Charlie once again at the PNC Championship in Orlando, Florida two weeks later. The latter event may be more probable since golfers are allowed to use carts during play.

At Augusta National, Woods succeeded in making the cut during his most recent TOUR appearance with scores of 74-73. However, after finishing only seven holes amidst a downpour during the third round, he withdrew and sought out subtalar fusion surgery just eleven days following this event.

Woods’ second TOUR start of the 2023 season was at The Masters, following his T45 finish at The Genesis Invitational in February after making it past the cut.

Since his 2021 car accident that resulted in multiple breaks to his right tibia and fibula as well as damage to his feet, Woods has participated in five TOUR events. Although he managed to make the cut four times, completing all 72 holes only happened twice due to understandable difficulties with walking – especially on uneven surfaces.

During the Masters, Woods expressed gratitude for his leg and acknowledged that while it has been modified with hardware, he still considers it to be wholly his own. Despite enduring hardship as a result of its alteration, he recognizes that future possibilities are limited due to reduced ability and endurance.

“It is due to this reason that I cannot participate in as many tournaments as I desire, but it is what holds for my future and therefore, acceptable. This situation finds me content.”
