‘Happy Gilmore 2’ script is written, Shooter McGavin confirms
Happy and Shooter’s story might not be over. đ
Adam Sandler has been taking bold and less conventional (for him) roles lately. Over the last few years, heâs been Howard Ratner in the tense âUncut Gems,â Stanley Sugarman in the basketball dramedy âHustleâ and Jakub ProchĂĄzka in the sci-fi thriller âSpaceman.â Heâs even working on the upcoming Noah Baumbach coming-of-age drama opposite George Clooney and Laura Dern.
With all that said, at his core, Sandler loves to make laugh-out-loud comedies starring himself and his friends, which is why it makes a lot of sense that we might have another âHappy Gilmoreâ sooner rather than later.
While on Audacyâs 92.3 The Fan, Shooter McGavin actor Christopher McDonald revealed that he had recently come across Sandler and saw a first draft of the much-anticipated sequel. McDonald has been as outspoken about his love for the 1996 golf classic as much as any of us, so he certainly seems excited to potentially return to his beloved villain role.

âI saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, âMcDonald, youâre gonna love this,’â McDonald said. âI said, âWhat?â He says, âHow about that,â and he shows me the first draft of âHappy Gilmore 2â. Maybe you should cut that out [of the show] because I donât wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, âWell, that would be awesome.â So, itâs in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!â
The original movie made just under $40 million in theaters, however, it quickly became a cult classic and home-video behemoth. Itâs nearly 30 years later and Happy Gilmore is a name synonymous with golf. Itâs honestly shocking weâve made it this long without a follow-up.
Adam Sandler’s 25th anniversary tribute to ‘Happy Gilmore’ is one of the most impressive things we’ve ever seen
Itâs too bad that the late Bob Barker and Carl Weathers will not be in the sequel, both passing away within the last year. The exaggerated Barker character and Chubbs respectively are integral to the âHappy Gilmoreâ obsession after all these years. We’re sure Sandler will include a tip of the cap to both of them.
