Tiger Woods still believes he can win The Masters in a brief interview

Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods remains confident in his ability to secure a sixth Green Jacket at Augusta National despite grappling with injury setbacks in recent years.

The former World No.1, renowned for his impeccable record at the first Major Championship of the year, is embarking on just his third competitive start since last year’s Masters Tournament. Woods, aged 48, endured a significant portion of the 2023 season sidelined following surgery on his right ankle, adding to a string of injury woes.

Among his trials, Woods faced career-threatening leg and ankle injuries from a car crash in February 2021, only two years after a remarkable comeback from spinal fusion surgery led to his fifth Masters title.

Despite a notably limited schedule, with his sole start at the Genesis Invitational in 2024 ending in withdrawal during the second round, the 15-time Major champion remains resolute in his pursuit to match Jack Nicklaus’ record of six Masters victories.

In his pre-tournament press conference, Woods asserted, “If everything comes together, I think I can get one more [Major]. I still think they [things coming together to win] can. I don’t know when that day is, when that day comes, but I still think that I can. I haven’t got to that point where I don’t think I can’t.”

While many athletes might have considered retirement in light of Woods’ injury challenges, he remains undeterred, driven by his passion to compete at the highest level.

Expressing his enduring love for the game, Woods stated, “I love golf, I do. I’ve always loved it. I played other sports growing up, but I just have always loved this sport. I love to compete.”

He attributes his success to his dedication to the game, emphasizing his enjoyment of the preparation and the thrill of competition. “I love competing, and I love that feeling when everything’s on fire with a chance to win and you either you do or you don’t,” he added.

Despite skepticism surrounding his chances of clinching a 16th Major Championship this week, Woods may still carve out history by potentially making his 24th consecutive cut at Augusta National, a feat yet to be achieved by any player.

Reflecting on his familiarity with the course, Woods remarked, “It’s consistency, longevity, and an understanding of how to play this golf course.” He highlighted the enduring value of his accumulated knowledge, despite course modifications over the years.
