Hardly-used Wrexham star now lauded as โ€˜invaluableโ€™ for role heโ€™s played recently

A Wrexham player who has hardly been used during the promotion run-in has been hailed for his impact off the pitch.

Wrexham are closing in on a miraculous promotion to League One, needing just five points from their final three games to seal their destiny.

On Tuesday night, Phil Parkinsonโ€˜s men clinched an impressive 4-1 victory over play-off chasers Crawley Town as a Paul Mullin double and goals from Ryan Barnett and Andy Cannon left supporters feeling delighted.

Several first-team stars have played vital roles in their rise towards the third tier, none more so than Mullin, but another player has received plaudits for his impact off the pitch.

One of Parkinsonโ€™s first signings at the Racecourse Ground, the 34-year-old has played a crucial part in their rise from the National League.

Tozer played in 23 of their first 26 matches in League Two but has since played just 48 minutes of football in his last 14 matches.

Tozer is one of eight players out of contract this summer, including captain Luke Young, Aaron Hayden and Jordan Tunnicliffe with the majority bidding farewell to the club.

Despite rarely featuring recently, journalist Nathan Salt has praised the player for his professionalism and for doing the things that often go unnoticed in the promotion race.

โ€œBen Tozer is invaluable, heโ€™s seen so much in the game and heโ€™s got a wealth of experience,โ€ Salt told the Rob Ryan Red podcast.

โ€œI just thought, Max [Cleworth] has been great, Eoghan Oโ€™Connell has been great, Tom Oโ€™Connor has been great and unfortunately for Will Boyle, heโ€™s dropped out but heโ€™d been really good in recent weeks.

โ€œBut Ben Tozer, heโ€™s not moaned or sulked, heโ€™s just gone out there and done the job and little things like that are why you get promoted.

โ€œAll chips into the middle of the table, do whatever you need to get over the line. Yes, he hasnโ€™t played in recent weeks, but Ben Tozer โ€“ this promotion will be for him and for all the others set to walk out of the building at the end of the season.โ€

Ben Tozer can leave Wrexham on a high
Watching his game time get reduced after playing such a vital in their rise from the National League would have been a tough pill for Tozer to swallow.

The veteran hasnโ€™t let that destroy his spirit with the former Cheltenham centre-back now looking to cap off his Wrexham career by winning promotion to League One.

It would be a fitting end for the man famed for his long throws and monstrous defensive performances as heโ€™s given so much to the Reds and deserves to go down in history.
