Golf legend Tiger Woods has made a major call to keep his caddie on board for The Masters despite plummeting to 950th in the world rankings.
The 48-year-old icon – who hasn’t swung a competitive club since the Genesis Open in February – is set to make a grand return at Augusta. After surviving a near-fatal car wreck in 2021 that left him with grave leg injuries, Woods has only managed to participate in a mere eight events.
Yet he’s gearing up for a monumental comeback, eyeing what could be his 16th major title and a sixth green jacket when The Masters tees off on Thursday. And he’s sticking with Lance Bennett, the seasoned bagman he picked up at Riviera during the Genesis Open, as confirmed by Golf Monthly (via the Mirror).
This marks the first time Tiger will stride the fairways with the same caddie for back-to-back tournaments since he and Joe LaCava went their separate ways post-2023 Masters. Woods, reflecting on his decision to team up with Bennett earlier this year, told reporters: “As far as Lance is concerned, I’ve had a great relationship with him over the years going back to when he caddied for Kuch [Matt Kuchar] and when we played at the Presidents Cup together back in, what, Muirfield Village.

“In all the years that we’ve been on Ryder Cups and Presidents Cups together and the times I’ve been able to play with him in the same groups. Very down to earth, very loyal and how he conversated through the years, I’ve also taken notice of that.
“We’ve had the same type of feels in how we look at the golf course and how we read putts, they’re very similar. I think we’re going to be a great team and look forward to the challenge.”
At the 2023 Masters, the 15-time major winner made the cut to equal the record for successive cuts made at the major. This year will mark his 26th appearance at the tournament, but some of those close to him, such as his friend and former Stanford college teammate Notah Begay III, are concerned with how his body will hold up.
