EXCLUSIVE: Tiger Woods set to play in golf buggy on PGA Champions Tour due to chronic walking pain

Tiger Woods qualifies for Masters, but injury history

Including a car accident in 2021, this means it will be difficult for him to play four consecutive rounds regularly.

Broadhurst has won and placed second in his last two starts on the American senior circuit, boosting his earnings to £580,000 this season. Despite battling chronic ankle arthritis, the former British Ryder Cup ace has earned more than £6 million since joining the tour after turning 50. Broadhurst has been allowed to use a buggy since last year after an ankle injury requiring treatment and surgery prevented him from completing 18 holes. He believes Woods, a 15-time major winner, will be able to do the same when he turns 50 next year and join a senior team where anyone can use a buggy if he wants. Brooks Koepka speaks candidly about ‘wasted’ Masters, causing huge backlash

Broadhurst, who turns 59 in August, said: “The tour wants Tiger to play on the Champions Tour, there’s no question about that. I think he’s made it clear that he’s willing to play no matter what. “He can get in the cart and it’ll be fine for him. Maybe he’s looking forward to playing without going out.”

Woods advanced to the Masters, but his injury history, including a car accident in 2021, made it difficult for him to play regularly, playing four consecutive rounds. Ms Broadhurst sympathized and admitted that her use of buggies had helped her continue to perform and impress, including winning last month’s Invitational Celebrity Classic.

He recalls: I have severe arthritis in my right ankle. When I retire, I will need surgery. At this point, I was told I had a year to recover, but I don’t have a year to play this game.

“I’m 58 years old. We’ll have to wait a few more years for that. For now, I am fortunate to be able to ride a cart. I can move around with this and it doesn’t seem to affect my golf.

“As long as I keep taking the medication, my leg will be fine. After applying an anti-inflammatory bandage, the pain subsided somewhat and he was able to move around with the help of a trolley. If I had to go around 18 holes, it would be very difficult for me.

Broadhurst’s victory was his first since 2018 and was the result of a meeting with sports psychologist Dr. John Pates. He added: “When things don’t go well, I don’t know if it’s my form, my injury, or my brain.

“Maybe the injury caused problems with his swing, which caused mental problems. That’s why I had the opportunity to meet John before the victory. His son Sam, who is trying to get into the game, has also been helping me out over the past few months.
