Scottie Scheffler to miss Wells Fargo Championship
Scotty Scheffler to miss Wells Fargo Championship
Scheffler opened up about his wife Meredith’s support
While awaiting the birth of his first child, the FedExCup leader has not played since his victory at the RBC Heritage
The resumption of Scotty Scheffler’s record course will have to wait at least another week. Scheffler will not be in the field for next week’s Wells Fargo Championships, scheduled for 5 p.m. ET Friday. The Wells Fargo Championship, the sixth featured event of the season, begins Thursday at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Scheffler has won four and finished second in his last five starts on the PGA Tour. This breakthrough propelled him to the top of the FedExCup and the Official World Golf Rankings. This also happened while he and his wife Meredith were expecting the birth of their first child. The PGA Championship will be held the week after Wells Fargo at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. If Scheffler plays the PGA, it will be three weeks after his home match. He has not competed since winning the RBC Heritage, which concluded on April 22. With the win, he became the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the Masters and the RBC Heritage in consecutive weeks. Scotty Scheffler continues his historic run by winning his 10th RBC Heritage title.
Scheffler’s two victories followed a five-shot victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and a historic performance at THE PLAYERS, where he successfully defended his title with a final round of 64. Scheffler became the first player to regain the PLAYERS championship. He also joined Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to win multiple Masters and Players Tournaments, and became the fourth-youngest player to win multiple Masters tournaments after Woods, Nicklaus and Seba Ballesteros. Scheffler also won the 2022 Masters. Woods (2002) and Jordan Spieth (2015) are the only two players since Nicklaus in 1972 to win two majors this year. Scheffler is expected to play in the PGA Championship, but his status is unknown due to the uncertainty of his child’s due date. Golfweek’s Adam Schupack reported earlier this week that Scheffler’s parents said the baby hasn’t been born yet, but that Scotty hasn’t publicly announced his due date. Scheffler said at the Masters that if Meredith, who is at home in Dallas, goes into labor, he plans to fly home immediately from Augusta National. This did not happen, but it is now expected to explore a great helmet chelmet.
