PGA Championship Round 1 live updates: Xander Schauffele is on fire as Tiger Woods makes the turn

PGA Championship first round live updates: Xander Schauffele is excited about Tiger Woods’ round

Tiger Woods made a turn at Valhalla at 1 a.m. Thursday.

Will Brooks Koepka repeat? Can Rory McIlroy finally end his 10-year losing streak? Will Tiger Woods’ body hold up? And how many heaters will John Daly turn on during his rounds? (Let\’s put the over-under at four.)

These are some of the burning questions that will begin to be answered Thursday during Round 1 of the 106th PGA Championship.

Xander Shaufele lost again in the second pair 4. The hole was one of the most difficult on the course, and he came within a few feet of the cup and made an easy birdie putt.

After a strong start, Rory McIlroy slumped, but after a bogey on the 18th, he managed to claw his way back to par.

Tiger finally hit the fairway… couldn\’t convert. Put his second on the par 5 over the green, hit a poor chip, leaving himself with a lengthy birdie putt that he could not convert. Xander Schauffele made another birdie, his fifth of the day, to round the turn at 31-5 under – two shots ahead of everyone.

The key for now: hitting the fairway. He hit a few long putts, but mostly hit the fairway and charged in, making a good impression for birdie.

I’m climbing… Another long par except for the 17th. His driver doesn’t work, but his flat stick definitely does. If you can find the green color correctly, the bird may fly.

Xander Schauffele is off to a strong start on his way to his first major victory. He birdied four of the first seven holes and took the lead in singles at 4 under.

The ghost of Tiger’s 15th hole when he missed the fairway with his tee shot. This led to another layup and he was unable to make a long par save.

In Valhalla you can see the bird, and already he has quite a collection of big names under 3 years old. They include: Xander Schauffele, Jordan Speight and Viktor Hovland.

Rory McIlroy (for now) picks up where he left off last week. Another birdie on the 13th put him at -2 and gave him the lead over Xander Schauffele and Doug Ghim. For a moment, it looked like Viktor Hovland was ready to take control of the match. He won the Tour Championship last fall and all was well for the Ryder Cup hero and Norwegian metal fan. But then his game strayed beyond the bounds of the planet and he has looked lost ever since.

All this allows us to say that Hovland is -2 on the first three holes. Let’s see if that lasts or if I just cursed him.

Tiger sunk an 18-foot ball on the island green 13th for birdie and made back-to-back one-putts. Return to Even during tour.

The rough at Valhalla is thick, so a tee shot into the fairway is essential. Tiger missed the fairway on the 12th hole and was forced to retire. He extended his approach to 15 feet and sank the putt for par. Hello to start your day.
