Tiger Woods misses U.S. Golf Championship in second round after terrible start, including two triple bogeys

Tiger Woods will not play in this weekend’s 2024 PGA Championship.

Tiger Woods was kicked out of the PGA Championship after a disastrous second round performance. The 15-time major champion had a disappointing end after a strong first round on Thursday when he finished with back-to-back shots.

This score gives him a one-point lead over par in the tournament, which puts him in a good position to move up in the standings on Friday.

But his chances quickly faded on the second hole when he carded a disappointing triple-bogey.

Tiger Woods needed a good start to keep himself in contention of making the weekend

His tee shot found the rough on the left side of the fairy before dumping his third shot into the bunker. Things got worse when Woods hit his fourth ball into the back of the green and into another bunker.

He finally reached the green on his fifth shot before two-putting to end up with a seven on the card. He made a bogey on the third hole and hit another 7 on the fourth hole.

He hit his third shot into the greenside bunker again, and it took two tries to get out. Woods then birdied his second triple bogey in three holes.

Before Friday, the 48-year-old had completed more than 1,400 holes at the PGA Championship without a triple bogey, an incredible feat. As a result, he had an eight-over-par lead for the tournament through the first four holes of the second round.

Back-to-back birdies excited some fans at the seventh and eighth holes, but those two putts came at the 11th and 12th holes. Tiger Woods was over par at the end of the first round.

He steadied the ship on the final hole and birdied the 18th, but finished with a 7-over-par lead and was eliminated from the tournament.

Speaking after the first round Thursday, Woods acknowledged it’s unclear how long Valhalla will play like he did. He said, “It’s a golf course with big boys now.

“This week I hit many irons (his victory in 2000). There were not many irons this week. “The game is a little short today because it’s warm, and the ball flew a little bit. “But it’s still a little damp today, and some of the balls got a little muddy. “Overall, this golf course is much wider, or maybe I’m just shorter!” »
