The report said Scheffler refused to comply and “accelerated, dragging Detective Gillis to the ground.” Scheffler is charged with second-degree assault on a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and failing to signal a traffic officer, and his arraignment on one count is scheduled for Tuesday.
Second-degree assault is a felony, and the remaining three are misdemeanors. Brandel Chamblee and Paul McGinley praised Scottie Scheffler’s ability to bounce back after being released from prison hours before teeing off on the second day of the PGA Championship.
“He didn’t do anything illegal, so either he gets suspended or he goes to court,” Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, told Golf Channel. “So we’re not interested in negotiating a settlement or anything like that. It was just a big misunderstanding.
