Mark Flaherty has become the latest PGA Tour board member to resign a week after Jimmy Dunne’s departure due to lack of progress in LIV Golf peace talks. Mark Flaherty was the most recent PGA Tour board member to resign.
Flaherty’s resignation was confirmed in a May 19 memo from PGA Tour President Jay Monahan to members.
It means he is the second director to step down from the role in a week.
Flaherty follows Rory McIlroy\’s ally Jimmy Dunne out the door. Mr. Dunn was one of the key architects of the PIF Framework Agreement, which was signed in Saudi Arabia on June 6, 2023.
He contacted LIV Golf mastermind Yasser Al Rumayyan via WhatsApp and met with influential Saudi businessmen in a series of secret meetings around the world. It was a step that raised a lot of high-profile golf players, including the 15-fold Major Tiger Woods.
Woods joined the political council in August last year and warned such as Monakhan and his officials that such an agreement can never be made again without preliminary knowledge of members.
It appears little progress has been made between the parties to make peace.
Dunne alluded to that in his resignation letter that was leaked before last week\’s PGA Championship at Valhalla. He claims his role has become “totally useless”, with other player-managers also treating him coldly and apparently still angry that his contract was negotiated in secret.
Woods denied that was the case and said he was surprised by Dunn’s decision. Jordan Sleeps also acquired a vague vision of Danna’s claims.
Makilra, 35, cried Danna’s loss after being torn in her attempt to join the Council and promote negotiations. โJimmy was basically the liaison between the PGA Tour and the PIF,โ McIlroy said.
โItโs a shame he hasnโt been involved in the project in recent months, and I think thatโs part of why itโs stalled.โ
McIlroy said his hopes for a deal between the PGA Tour and PIF have never been lower. Flying was his letter about his resignation, not mentioning Liv negotiations.
His participation in the board was previously date on the arrival of LIV. Four and a half years into his term, he writes: consistently puts our fans, players, title sponsors, media, tournaments, marketing partners and volunteers first.
โAdditionally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the dedicated PGA Tour staff who support our operations, work tirelessly to ensure each week’s events run flawlessly, and provide an excellent product to the golf community. I think that I want to do it.” ใ
