JUST-IN: Rory McIlroy issues brutal public statement after filing for divorce from wife Erica

 

Professional golfer Rory McIlroy filed for divorce from his wife Erica McIlroy in Florida on March 13, according to Palm Beach County court records.

 

In McIlroy’s first statement since the filing was announced, his spokesman said he hopes the divorce will proceed amicably. The petition, published in its entirety by the New York Post, asks for the prenuptial agreement to be honored: “Rory McIlroy’s public relations team confirmed today that divorce has been filed. They emphasized Rory’s desire to make this difficult time as respectful and friendly as possible,” his manager Sean O’Flaherty told the New York Post.

The divorce documents, which were published in full by the New York Post, say that McIlroy was filing “an action for dissolution of marriage.”

 

They describe his residence as “the State of Florida for more than six (6) months prior to the filing of this Petition.”

 

The documents say the pair married on April 21, 2017, in Ireland, and their marriage is “irretrievably broken.”

 

The Divorce Petition Filed by Rory McIlroy Asked for ‘Equal Timesharing’ of the Couple’s Daughter, for a Prenuptial Agreement to Be Enforced & for Both Parties to Support the Child

 

One minor child was born of the marriage, the petition says. Poppy, 3, is referred to in the documents as PKM, born in 2020.

 

The documents state that “it is in the best interests of the minor children for the parties to share parental responsibilities” and call for a “parenting plan” that “includes a time-share schedule that provides for frequent and ongoing contact with both parties.” It is in the minor child’s best interest to share equal time with each parent.

 

The complaint notes that the parties executed a prenuptial agreement on March 7, 2017, and asks the court to determine whether it is “valid and enforceable.” The prenuptial agreement was not attached to the complaint “to protect the parties’ privacy rights,” but McIlroy indicated he would be open to attaching it if necessary.

 

Regarding child support, the petition states that under Florida law, “both parties have the ability to provide support for the minor children and should be required to contribute to the support of the minor children.”
