NOW: Rory McIlroy makes brutal official statement after filing for divorce from wife Erica

Professional golfer Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife Erica McIlroy in Florida, according to Palm Beach County court records.

In the golfer’s first statement since the suit was announced, McIlroy’s rep said he hoped the divorce remained amicable. The petition, published in full by the New York Post, asks that the prenuptial agreement be respected:

“Rory McIlroy’s public relations team confirmed today that divorce has been filed. They emphasized Rory’s desire to make this difficult time as respectful and amicable as possible,” his manager Sean O’Flaherty told the New York Post.

The New York Post reported that the couple had been married for seven years. They have a daughter, Poppy.

According to divorce records from Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica McIlroy, the golfer filed for divorce, declaring their marriage “irretrievably broken.” Palm Beach County divorce records list Rory McIlroy as the “plaintiff/petitioner” and Erica McIlroy as the “defendant/respondent.”

The judge is Cheryl Caracuzzo. The attorney appointed is Thomas Julian Sasser. The petition was filed on May 13. The entry in the lawsuit reads: “ON THE DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE AND THE ASSOCIATED DISTRIBUTION OF MARRIAGE (WITH MINOR CHILDREN. ..)” Also included was a “Confidential Registration Notice” and my Social Security number. The case was assigned to Family North County, according to the files.

Divorce documents, which were published in full by the New York Post, claim that McILroy was putting “an action for the dissolution of marriage”.

They describe his residence as “the state of Florida for more than six (6) months before the deposit of this petition”.

A minor child was born from marriage, indicates the petition. Poppy, 3, is referred to in the documents as P.K.M., born in 2020.

The documents state that “it is in the minor child’s best interest that the parties share parental responsibilities” and call for a “parenting plan” that “includes a time-share schedule that provides for frequent and ongoing contact between the two parties.” It is in the minor child’s best interest to share equal time with each parent.”

The complaint notes that the parties executed a prenuptial agreement on March 7, 2017, and asks the court to determine whether it is “valid and enforceable.” The prenuptial agreement was not attached to the petition “to protect the parties’ privacy rights,” but McIlroy indicated he intends to attach it if necessary.

Regarding child support, the petition states that under Florida law, “both parties have the ability to provide support for the minor children and should be required to contribute to the support of the minor children.” A 2015 Democrat & Chronicle article noted that Erica Stoll (now McIlroy) was working as a “championship volunteer manager” for the PGA at the time.

A 2010 Palm Beach Post article said that Rory McIlroy’s lawyer, Sasser, represented golfer Tiger Woods in his divorce following infidelity allegations. “A West Palm Beach divorce lawyer has attracted scores of high-profile clients with his apparently low-key demeanor,” the newspaper reported.

“One of the reasons he gets such high-profile divorces is exactly the reason you had to call me to find out about him,” attorney John Schutz told the Palm Beach Post. “He won’t make statements to the press. He doesn’t talk about his clients or his business.”

The paper reported that Sasser also represented NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon in his divorce, adding:
