Boston Common Golf is owned by Fenway Sports Group and Rory McIlroyโ€™s investment firm, Symphony Ventures

Niall Horan has revealed that he has invested in the interactive golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

The former One Direction star confirmed that he is now an investor and ambassador for Boston Common Golf, one of six teams involved in the virtual TGL golf league.

Boston Common Golf is owned by Fenway Sports Group and Rory McIlroyโ€™s investment firm, Symphony Ventures.

Announcing the news on social media, Niall said: โ€œExcited to announce I am an investor & ambassador for @commongolf! Boston is a very special place to me & I am excited to work with Fenway Sports, Rory, Keegan, Adam & the whole team on the Boston franchiseโ€.

โ€œGolf has been a lifelong passion of mine,โ€ he added in a statement.

โ€œBeing able to combine my love for the game and my friendship with Rory into a relationship that helps launch a new concept in golf is truly special.โ€

Niall has been a longtime fan of the sport and even launched his own golf-focused sports agency, Modest! Golf Management, in 2015 with his business partner Mark McDonnell.

The Mullingar man has also used the past decade to spend โ€œas much time as possibleโ€ on all the golf tours including the Challenge, European and USPGA tour while supporting initiatives such as Drive Chip Putt in America.

TGL, a new tech-inspired golf league, was formed by sports executive Mike McCarley and professional golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in partnership with the PGA Tour.

Its first season is due to launch sometime next year and will feature six teams of three PGA Tour players who compete on a virtual course, with Irish golfer Shane Lowry billed to participate alongside Woods and McIlroy.

Celebrity investors in TGL include Lewis Hamilton, Justin Timberlake, Steph Curry, Serena Williams, and Shaquille Oโ€™Neill.
