Charlie Woods’ golf career may just be getting started, but Tiger Woods’ son already has some big goals in mind. The 15-year-old golfer told reporters this week that he wants to play on the PGA Tour and then one day win the U.S. Open.
Charlie, who Woods shares with ex-wife Elin Nordegren, qualified for his first USGA championship event on Wednesday. He qualified for his first amateur tournament by shooting 1 under par on the par-71 course at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla.
“The USGA means a lot to me,” Charlie said. “I want to win a USGA championship and one day win the U.S. Open.”
Charlie has been competing more frequently this year as he begins to find his place in the sport his 48-year-old father has dominated and defined for the past three decades.
Woods’ son already proved his ambition earlier this year when he tried to qualify for the U.S. Open last weekend at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. But Charlie failed to qualify for the US Open, finishing 61st in April qualifying.
According to the Associated Press, Woods’ son is gradually getting used to professional golf, competing alongside his father in the PNC Championship each of the past four years. “Every moment I spend with my son is special,” Tiger told ESPN in 2022. “And to do that on a competitive stage, the last two years have been magical, so I can’t wait to do it again.”
