Ian Poulter offers shocking explanation to PGA Tour after shock arrest of Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler was arrested ahead of the second round of this week’s PGA Championship at Valhalla – and the world No.1 received well wishes from LIV Golf’s Ian Poulter

Ian Poulter has explained the reasoning behind the arrest of Scottie Scheffler in the build-up to the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.

The world number 1 was seen being led handcuffed into a police car in the early hours of Friday morning after arriving ahead of the second round. Earlier that morning a car accident saw one man – now named as John Mills – killed after being hit by a shuttle bus outside the course entrance.

Around an hour later, Scheffler arrived at Valhalla to begin his prep and in a bid to gain access bypassed traffic, which left him in hot water with the law. Authorities quickly put him in a patrol car and took him to a local police station.

As players participating in several tournaments each year, we are asked to turn on our hazard lights when driving around the venue and to get there if it is stationary.

“It’s as simple as a misunderstanding. And obviously everything will be thrown away. END. I hope he plays well today.

And he did, and just hours after being left in police custody and photographed, he was reminiscing about his best days on the golf course. After his release, he was brought back to Valhalla for the 10:08 central match. And despite the stress of his morning arrest, the world number one made it all back with a birdie on the first hole of the day, which was followed by a bogey, but Scheffler fought back immediately with a second birdie on the third.
