Martin Slumbers is stepping down from his post at the end of the year. But he’s also nervous about what the future holds. Doremus, the investment banker turned R&A executive, has a stern warning for golf fans: The British Open will increase the size of its purse, but only by $500,000, half what the US PGA did this year. The purse size of the PGA Championship was $11 million in 2020; this year it was $18.5 million. The USGA has pumped in $9 million over the past three years.
