Breaking News: Tiger Woods in tears after announcing retirement 😭 😭

Tiger Woods said he had a sleepless flight to the British Open after seeing the news of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. The 48-year-old golfer left Florida on Saturday for his 152nd tournament in Scotland this week, but was left fatigued ahead of his first practice session at Royal Troon on Sunday after closely watching the former president’s rally unfold in Pennsylvania.

“This is an assassination attempt,” is the only thing we observed on our entire trip here. I didn’t sleep a wink on the plane, and I ended up on the golf course.”

Woods, a 15-time major champion, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Trump in 2019, shortly after returning to the Masters, but one rally participant was killed and two seriously injured in a mass shooting.

Trump and Woods, both avid golfers, have a long history together, having played many rounds together over the years. Asked about his purported friendly relationship with the then-president in 2018, Woods replied: β€œWell, he’s the president of the United States.”

β€œNo matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office,” he added, according to Yahoo Sports.

Woods teed off Thursday in pursuit of a fourth Open Championship victory on Thursday, having lifted the Claret Jug in 2000, 2005 and 2006. Considering the permanent battle of Woods after leg injury and rehabilitation in a car accident in 2021, which contributed to the fierce appearance of sporadic competition, it was shocked by the 23rd appearance in major. It will be a typical victory.

82 PGA tour winners endured the difficult major season, and finished 60th in the Masters before missing the cuts in both PGA championship and US Open. However, Woods remains adamant that he will play for as long as he feels he can win, rejecting suggestions from former world number two Colin Montgomerie that he should consider retirement.

β€œWell, as a former champion, I am exempt until the age of 60. That’s not the case with Collin,” Woods told reporters Tuesday, citing the fact that players are automatically eligible for majors based on past tournament wins.

“Just because he’s not a former champion doesn’t absolve him of responsibility. So he doesn’t have the ability to make this decision. I do.”
