Paris. Their Olympiads could not get worse, but the US 3X3 basketball team was in time to continue medals. Dearrica Hamby scored nine points as the U.S. beat China 21-13 in pregame play Saturday at La Concordia and will face second-seeded Spain in Monday’s semifinals. The United States has won five straight games after starting 0-3 and beat China, the world No. 1 team, twice on Saturday.

“Those first few games, I just didn’t think our effort was where it needed to be,” Sierra Burdick said after the women’s first win on Saturday. “3×3 is a different sport. A lot of it comes down to formations and tactics, but a lot of it is just wanting more, giving your all and working harder and tougher than your opponent. I think we lacked that in the first few games, and I think now we’re starting to realise how hard it is to win.” — Dave Birkett
