As the investigation into the South American plane accident continues, the pilot flying the plane that crashed to the ground, killing all 62 people on board, has been identified. Dario Pacheco, the mayor of the Sao Paulo city of Viñedo, said Capt. Danilo Santos Romano, 35, was the first confirmed victim after Friday’s fiery crash in Brazil. According to Romano’s LinkedIn profile, he had more than 10 years of experience in aviation and had been working for the airline Voepass Linhas since June 2023.

The experienced pilot was in the cockpit when the twin-engine turboprop ATR 72 crashed into a residential area in the town of Viñedo. Local authorities and the airline said all 62 people on board were killed in the plane crash.
All the bodies had been transferred to the Sao Paulo police morgue, officials said at a press conference after the crash. “Once all this evidence has been collected, we will extract the victims from the rubble and place them in a vehicle to transport them to Sao Paulo,” said firefighter Maicon Cristo at the scene of the accident.

Four people with double citizenship were among the victims – three Venezuelans and a Portuguese, “said regional airline Vepass. Reuters reported, citing local newspaper Globonews, that the Venezuelans were identified as a 4-year-old boy, his mother and grandmother.

After a plane crash at São Paulo Statevideo in Brazil
Firefighters, military police and the civil defense authority have all the teams sent teams to the accident site. Authorities are using seat assignments, physical descriptions, documents and personal items such as cellphones to identify the victims.
Federal authorities said the plane’s black boxes were found early Saturday morning.
The airline said it had not confirmed how the accident happened. Brazil’s aviation agency said in a statement it would investigate.
