Living golf legend Jack Nicklaus broke down in tears as he announced that his beloved wife Barbara will be the guest of honor at the 2025 Memorial Tournament. Nikraus announced in the finals on Sunday broadcasting on commentator Jim Nantz and CBS.
“I can’t take him, the gym,” said Nikrauss.
“It’s Barbara Nicklaus. It’s hard for me to get out. I’m sorry, but you know, Barbara meant a lot to this tournament.
“Everybody paid tribute to Jack Nicklaus, but Barbara Nicklaus was there for everything that happened. “And the captains, you know, thought it would be fitting for Barbara to be an honorary participant at the 50th anniversary celebrations.
“I broke down in tears that night. I still cry to this day,” Nantz said.
“I understand that. That is definitely a perfect choice. You were the winner in the 25th edition.
He added: “There is no Barbara tournament.”
Nichus married Baber in July 1960. They have five children: Jack, Stephen, Nancy, Gary and Michael, and 22 grandchildren.
The Memorial Tournament was founded by Nicklaus in 1976 and is played on a course he designed in the village of Muirfield in Dublin, Ohio. Each year the tournament is dedicated to a person who has contributed greatly to golf.
This honorary title is chosen by the Captains Club, a group of government officials who act independently of the tournament’s organizers but also advise on player invitations and the running of the event.
