Living golf legend Jack Nicklaus broke down in tears on CBS during the final round of the 2024 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. Golf legend Jack Nicklaus broke down in tears when he announced that his beloved wife, Barbara, will be the winner of the Memorial Tournament in 2025.

Nicklaus made the announcement with commentator Jim Nantz during Sunday’s CBS final round broadcast. “I can’t tell you that, Jim,” Nicklaus said through tears.

“It’s Barbara Nicklaus. It’s hard to come out of that. Sorry, but Barbara meant so much to this tournament. “Everyone respected Jack Nikraus, but Barbara Nick Crauss had everything.

“And the captain felt that Barbara would win the appropriate 50th commemorative race. “I broke down and cried that night, and I’m still crying now.”

Nantz said: “We understand. It’s an absolutely perfect choice. You were the winner in the 25th edition.

He added: “There is no Barbara tournament.”

Nichus married Baber in July 1960.

They have five children -22 grandchildren, Jack, Steven, Nancy, Gary, Michael. The Memorial Tournament was established by Nicklaus in 1976 and is played on a course he designed at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.

The tournament annually recognizes individuals who have contributed to the game of golf. The winner is selected by the Captains Club, a group of government officials who operate independently of the tournament organizers but also advise on inviting players and running the event. Living golf legend Jack Nicklaus breaks down in tears when he announces that his beloved wife Barbara will be the honoree of the 2025 Memorial Tournament. Nicklaus made the announcement during Sunday’s final round, broadcast on CBS with commentator Jim Nantz.

“You can’t get out of this, Jim,” a tearful Nicklaus said. “This is Barbara Nicklaus. It’s hard for me to get out of this. Sorry, Barbara meant so much to this tournament.

“Everyone pays tribute to Jack Nicklaus, but Barbara Nicklaus was there for everything that happened. “And the captain felt that Barbara would win the appropriate 50th commemorative race.

“I broke overnight and cried, and now I cry again.”

Nance said, “We understand. This is a perfect choice. You were the guest of honor at the 25th.”

He added, “There is no tournament without Barbara.”

Nicklaus married Barbara in July 1960. They have five children – Jack, Stephen, Nancy, Gary and Michael – and 22 grandchildren.

The Memorial Tournament was founded in 1976 by Nicklaus and is played on a course he designed at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio. Each year the tournament is dedicated to someone who has contributed greatly to golf.

Living golf legend Jack Nicklaus was reduced to tears as he announced his beloved wife Barbara will be the honoree of the 2025 Memorial Tournament. Nicklaus made the announcement Sunday during the final round broadcast with CBS commentator Jim Nantz.

“Everybody has respect for Jack Nicklaus, but Barbara Nicklaus has been there for me through everything that’s happened. “And the captains felt that since it’s the 50th anniversary tournament, Barbara was a fitting recipient.

“I broke down in tears the other night and I’m crying again right now.”

“We understand,” Nantz said. What a perfect choice! He appeared as the guest of honor at the 25th event. The anniversary tournament was established by Nicklaus in 1976 and is played on a course he designed.
