Luke Humphreys reveals unusual darts problem and still unhappy after winning title
Luke Humphreys won the New Zealand Masters for his first World Series of Darts victory, but he’s still unhappy with his past performances.
World number one Luke Humphreys finally won his first World Series of Darts title at the New Zealand Masters, but he’s not happy.
With an 8-2 victory over Damon Heta in the final, Humphreys claimed the £20,000 top prize, exorcising the ghosts of World Series past that had eluded him until now. After losing the first game, Humphries quickly turned the tide to take a 5-1 lead before dominating the final three games to seal the victory and prove why he is the reigning world champion. The New Zealand Masters will be the seventh event in the series this year, paving the way to the World Series of Darts Final in Amsterdam. The tournament was established by the PDC in 2013, when Michael van Gerwen defeated Nathan Aspinall in the previous year’s final. This year he won the World Championship, World Cup and World Matchplay Championship, but winning the World Series of Darts was one honour missing in Humphries’ career. The 29-year-old has been open about the challenges he has faced, admitting that in the past Cool Hand Luke would have been more focused on other major tournaments.
