Happy and Shooter’s story might not be over. šŸ‘€

Adam Sandler has been taking bold and less conventional (for him) roles lately. Over the last few years, heā€™s been Howard Ratner in the tense ā€œUncut Gems,ā€ Stanley Sugarman in the basketball dramedy ā€œHustleā€ and Jakub ProchĆ”zka in the sci-fi thriller ā€œSpaceman.ā€ Heā€™s even working on the upcoming Noah Baumbach coming-of-age drama opposite George Clooney and Laura Dern.

With all that said, at his core, Sandler loves to make laugh-out-loud comedies starring himself and his friends, which is why it makes a lot of sense that we might have another ā€œHappy Gilmoreā€ sooner rather than later.

While on Audacyā€™s 92.3 The Fan, Shooter McGavin actor Christopher McDonald revealed that he had recently come across Sandler and saw a first draft of the much-anticipated sequel. McDonald has been as outspoken about his love for the 1996 golf classic as much as any of us, so he certainly seems excited to potentially return to his beloved villain role.

ā€œI saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ā€˜McDonald, youā€™re gonna love this,’ā€ McDonald said. ā€œI said, ā€˜What?ā€™ He says, ā€˜How about that,ā€™ and he shows me the first draft of ā€˜Happy Gilmore 2ā€™. Maybe you should cut that out [of the show] because I donā€™t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ā€˜Well, that would be awesome.ā€™ So, itā€™s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!ā€

The original movie made just under $40 million in theaters, however, it quickly became a cult classic and home-video behemoth. Itā€™s nearly 30 years later and Happy Gilmore is a name synonymous with golf. Itā€™s honestly shocking weā€™ve made it this long without a follow-up.

Adam Sandler’s 25th anniversary tribute to ‘Happy Gilmore’ is one of the most impressive things we’ve ever seen

Itā€™s too bad that the late Bob Barker and Carl Weathers will not be in the sequel,Ā both passing awayĀ within the last year. The exaggerated Barker character and Chubbs respectively are integral to the ā€œHappy Gilmoreā€ obsession after all these years. We’re sure Sandler will include a tip of the cap to both of them.
