New year, new goals: 5 Steelers players to watch in 2024
Now that the new year is upon us, the Steelers have had a season to forget. Despite a strong performance in the offseason, the team fell apart. Now the team is looking at another average year before the offseason. While the situation is uncertain, there are players to watch in 2024. There are several reasons for this. I think some of these players could be stars for this team. Others are now disappointed and need to right the ship. My only takeaway is the team’s current rookie class. These are the players everyone is looking forward to seeing take off with the team in their second season.
Here are five Steelers to watch in 2024. The Steelers could move on from Jaylen Warren.
The rear camera isn’t as good as advertised this season. The hope was a tactic that allowed for long drives and an efficient passing game when needed. The top dog would be former first-round pick Naji Harris, with Jaylen Warren looking to account for him and provide an option for a trade.
While the running game has improved overall, the unit has not lived up to the expectations the team set this offseason. The offensive line is hot and cold as a blocker, and the Steelers’ dogfight will likely force the defense to get involved in the run game.
But Warren played well and is now a better fit in the offense. That’s not to say Harris’ performance isn’t good. He does a good job, but can break up big plays when Warren hits the ball. This burst is required for blocking attacks. It’s hard to imagine Harris picking up his fifth-year option next year. That means both he and Warren are entering contract seasons. If they’re both there next year, I’d love to see Warren Harris do an early job. They are a pair that work well as a tandem, but we will have to watch closely to see if Warren can make the next leap and sign a second contract with the team.
